For those familiar with the indie music scene, RATRiot.com’s feature of the amazingly talented band The Black Kids should come as no surprise. With the debut of their first studio album Partie Traumatic, The Black Kids have gained a massive world-wide following since the band was formed in 2006 in Jacksonville, Florida. Consisting of six members; front man Reggie Youngblood, with Kevin Snow on drums, Owen Holmes on guitar, Dawn Watley on keyboard, Ali Youngblood also as the background vocalist, their hypnotic and eclectic sound is raw, edgy, and fun.
The first two singles “I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You” & “Hurricane Jane”, both have become anthems in their own right for young indie kids everywhere. The recent announcement that the Black Kids have no plans to record a second album anytime soon has their many fans in a frenzy, however don’t worry, the band plans of kicking off an indie-funk filled tour beginning in September along with The Virgins.
